When you make that decision to start your own online business, you normally venture off in a direction that is enjoyable to you. An area that you like. That makes sense. If you’re going to be spending a lot of time on something and getting it off the ground, you will want to enjoy what you’re doing, right?
Well, yes and no.
Conventional wisdom suggests that you should work in an area that you enjoy, but don’t be confused by that statement.
Financial reward does not automatically follow personal enjoyment.
Enjoying a specific field or market and having passion for it will definitely help you create an interesting product, service or site, but it won’t guarantee monetary success.
If there’s no money in plastic fork collecting, you won’t make any money no matter how much you love it.
This is why many successful business people maintain multiple ‘verticals’, or ventures in different markets. They know that its great to love one specific market or field, but it’s better if you can also love making money. Then you can free your mind to the notion of applying a love of making money to ANY market you wish.
Suddenly it doesn’t matter what the market is. You just want to succeed at it.
Love is good, but it’s better with money.
